A Few Words from Apollo's Students for Life

Is abortion murder?

The answer to that question has always been "yes" for me.  My mother taught me about abortion really is- about the procedure, its aftermath, about how life develops.  But it wasn't until recently that the reality of abortion hit me.

I've heard many girls says, "If I got pregnant, I'd just have an abortion."

Their ignorance really amazed me.  Didn't they know that babies are ripped apart during abortions, burned in saline, or positioned so their brains can be sucked out?  Didn't they know about adoption and how many childless married couples are out there eager to have a new baby become a part of their family?  Didn't they know that abortion is terrible and painful for the baby and the mother?

I realized that these young girls must not know.  I had to do something to educate these young girls.  One day while I was discussing the topic of abortion with my family, I came up with the idea of starting a Pro-Life club at my school.  I don't really know how the conversation led me to this idea, but I think God had a little something to do with it.  Suddenly I felt as if I had been blessed with knowledge of the facts and strength to tell others the truth.

My idea of Students for Life is to educate young girls about pregnancy options, how life develops, the abortion procedure, and current legislation regarding preservation of life.  I made a vow to myself that our club would seek to educate and not to judge or discriminate.  Many people just do not realize there is a holocaust occurring that is taking the lives of little babies!  They think there is just this blob of tissue in there with no heart, no human features---but science can prove them wrong!

Call me an extremist, but I think dismembering children is wrong! I just can't sit back and do nothing, so here I am today---starting a pro-life group in a public school, and I think that's a good sign.  I am very grateful to our principal, Mr. Purcell for allowing us to have this club and exercise our right for free speech.  I hope more and more people will seek to follow the example of our club by getting involved in Pro-Life issues, researching abortion procedures and legislation, and reaching others with the message of the truth.

Abortion is murder.  It is the holocaust of our time.  Would you have set back and watched as Jewish people were being led off by Hitler to concentration camps?  Will you sit back and ignore the silent scream of our nation's most defenseless?  Hopefully soon, we will all be so ashamed that this evil crime against babies was ever legal and it will be a black stain on our nation's history as is the days of slavery.

Thanks,
Chelsea Freels

The Ultimate Mission
Elaina Reid, Secretary

Students For Life is a club with a mission:  to inform people about the truth about abortion and the alternate choices that are available to mothers.  This club will hopefully make a difference in our community by convincing others that abortion is wrong and that it is never the only option.  The sooner people realize this, the sooner the homicide of innocent children will decrease and, eventually, be eliminated.

Mothers, especially young women, need to know that there are many choices other than abortion that are less harmful both physically and emotionally.  If the woman chooses giving her child up for adoption, she will not face the corporal injuries or the severe guilt and shame that she would experience with abortion.  Supposing the mother wants to pretend the pregnancy never occurred, she can have a closed-adoption.  This means that she will never see the child again and no one will even know that it is her child.  On the other hand, she can also have an open-adoption, meaning she will be allowed to meet her child's adoptive parents and interact with her child throughout its life.  Another way to deal with the pregnancy is to actually have and keep the child, as scary as that sounds.  The mother needs to be informed about organizations that will help her to make it through difficult times, such as Birth Right.  Daycare centers, as well as friends and family members, are also available for assistance.

Reaching mothers who might be considering having an abortion is important, but it's also necessary to inspire everyone around the mother and persuade them that abortion is wrong as well.  Fathers are often the deciding factor for a woman who is contemplating abortion.  If the father claims that abortion is the best choice, then the mother is likely to follow his advice.  However, if he fervently protests, most women will not want to upset the father of her child by going against his will and killing his own offspring.  Parents of the pregnant woman can be a huge influence on her, especially if she is just a teenager; she will want to please her parents and will probably do what they recommend.  If they suggest having an abortion, she can be expected to do so.  But this goes both ways:  parents who are pro-life can also sway their child to do the right thing.

As the secretary of Students For Life, I hope to get involved in the fight for life and make a change in society's view on abortion.  I want to bring my own ideas and creativity to this club as well as hear the thoughts of others who share my beliefs on this topic.  Through my own example, I hope to inspire others who are afraid to speak out and to bring awareness to those who are uninformed on the issue of abortion.  I also want to show love and compassion rather than judgment to mothers who are considering having an abortion or who have already had one; perhaps all they really need is to feel loved despite any mistakes they may have made.  Showing consideration for mothers and educating them about abortion may save a number of unborn children.  But if only one child is protected from murder, our mission will be accomplished.  With courage to stand up for what is right, I know we have the power to make a positive impact on our community.
